Stroke of Love (Written for Nancy Spano)

Nancy has a documentary coming out telling her incredible story about surviving a stroke and finding herself, healing and now creating impact for others. I originally wrote the lyrics and had a melody created but even though it was “good” - it didn’t evoke enough emotion, so I sat on it and walked away from working on it for a few days. Then, suddenly while sitting on the couch, tired from not sleeping well the night before - it was like a voice that just appeared in my head saying “tired” and I flashed back to seeing a scene of Nancy from her documentary. So I pulled up the lyrics I had written, deleted the verses and the bridge, but kept the chorus. I rewrote new verses and started verse 1 with the word “tired” which changed the whole structure of how I formatted the verses. The words just flowed out of me. And when I paired it with the music - I knew this was what I was missing in the first draft of the song. And Stroke of Love, Nancy’s anthem was born.
